The MADD Stand strikes again

Posted & filed under Life, Social Media.

Last time it was lemonade. This time it was hot cocoa. You may remember, from a previous blog post (link), about my MADD Lemonade Stand this September.

This time, the MADD hot cocoa stand popped up at the BMX track across from Autzen Stadium as tailgating parties were underway before the Oregon vs. Colorado football game. MADD volunteers and I handed out free hot cocoa to tailgaters while promoting designated driving to Duck fans.

The location and beverage may have changed but the concept remained the same. Influenced by our MADD PSA, we emphasized the tagline, “Be a Designated Driver. Good Things happen.”

As tailgaters approached the MADD stand for free hot cocoa, we introduced them to the social media contest.

A person or group of people posed with the MADD arrow, labeled #ImaDD, and pointed to the Designated Driver. Then they uploaded the photo to social media, with the hashtag #ImaDD, entering them into a contest to win a prize package of gift cards from supporting businesses (thanks to Full City Coffee, Voodoo Doughnut, Starbucks, Track Town Pizza, Jimmy Johns, Passion Flower and Off the Waffle.)

Once again, we mixed social media and grass-roots outreach to create lasting impressions.

So, during this football and holiday season it’s important to remind people to plan ahead and designate a driver before heading off to an ugly sweater party – or to watch the Ducks play in the Rose Bowl!
