As of today, searching for a hashtag on Google produces a stream of highlighted results to the right of traditional search listings. For now, those hashtag search results are derived from Google+ content; another string tying Google’s search and social efforts closer together.

The highlighted post results are those that are either shared with the searcher personally, or set as “public” by the person who posted the content. Clicking on a link takes you to a full set of relevant posts on Google+.
While not highlighted, Facebook and Twitter results aren’t completely left out, as small search links for both appear under the Google+ results.
