Facebook updates EdgeRank algorithm

Posted & filed under Social Media, Tips of the Trade.

edgerank changesAs we discussed in a previous post, Facebook’s algorithm, called EdgeRank, determines the percentage of your page’s fans that see your posts in their news feed. Historically, that percentage has been around ten.

And you thought that was low.

In late September, Facebook updated EdgeRank to “show the posts that people are most likely to engage with, ensuring they see the most interesting stories. This aligns with our vision that all content should be as engaging as the posts you see from friends and family.”

What this means:

1. Facebook needs to increase its stock price. To do this, it needs more advertising revenue. To maintain or increase their pages’ relevance, page owners may now need to advertise.

2. As a page owner, you need to adjust. This means either A. getting more creative with your posts to improve engagement or B. advertising to increase mindshare on Facebook.

If you don’t have the budget to advertise on Facebook, don’t panic. High-quality content is simply more important than ever, and there are ways to organically improve your EdgeRank. Here are some good tips from Kreata Global.
