Using hashtags in Twitter

If you are a Twitter user, you've seen tweets that include a "#" and wondered, what is that doing in there?

That symbol, in the Twitterverse, is known as a hashtag and is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet.

For example, let's say you tweeted a link to your newest blog post about how your company is creatively using YouTube and want your tweet to be found by those searching for this topic. In your tweet, you would simply say something like, "Check out our latest blog post on how to creatively use #YouTube."

With the hashtag in place, your tweet will now appear in Twitter search results when someone searches for YouTube. If someone searches, finds and clicks on your link (and likes what they see/read), they may now become a follower, retweet your post, or even better, eventually become a client!
